Ole S. Johnson, professor emeritus of marketing and a former dean of the School of Business Administration, died Jan. 5 at his home in Orange City, Fla. He was 84.
Johnson served as dean from 1969 to 1973 and taught in the marketing department until his retirement in 1981.
After leaving Old Dominion, Johnson and his wife, Ruth, worked for Century 21 in Palm Coast, Fla. She died in 1995. As late as early last year, Johnson won medals for his singing and was in demand as a soloist throughout central Florida.
A native of Pingree, N.D., Johnson was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a past president and board chairman of the International Council of Small Business and a past vice president of the American Marketing Association.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Jamestown (N.D.) College, an M.B.A. from Northwestern University, and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh. He was dean of the School of Business at Oklahoma City University before coming to Old Dominion.
Survivors include a son, Ronald, of Tustin, Mich; a brother, Clarence, of Portland, Ore.; and two sisters, Christine Campbell of Spokane, Wash., and Agnes Brown of Paradise, Calif.
