Admissions CD wins national PRSA award
Old Dominion's innovative Admissions CD received a prestigious Bronze Anvil award for best interactive communications from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

One of only 39 award recipients in 40 categories from more than 1,300 entries across the country, Old Dominion was recognized at the organization's Silver Anvil Evening June 14 in New York City. Winners were selected by panels of judges nationwide, which rated the entries based on planning, content, creativity, quality, technical excellence and results.

"This award clearly places Old Dominion at the national forefront in using technology to creatively address recruiting and admissions needs," said John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement.

Developed in 1999, the university's Admissions CD was the first in Virginia and among the first in the country. A full multi-media computer CD no larger than a business card, it features a video greeting from former President James V. Koch, as well as audio greetings from the college deans. In addition to a full menu of information, the CD includes an automatic link to the university Web site, ensuring that information will always be current.

"Today's generation of teenagers are much more technologically savvy than their predecessors," Broderick said.

"They are well-versed in the many uses of computers, compact discs and the Internet. Since Old Dominion has championed the use of technology in the classroom and in its delivery of education, we decided it was time to take our admissions recruiting to the next stage. Sending these students an interactive CD is the perfect solution because they are more likely to pop a CD into their computer than sit down and leaf through a 40-page booklet."

Other Bronze Anvil Award recipients included Home Depot, Eastman Kodak, Anheuser-Busch, General Mills, Heinz North America/StarKist Seafood and Victoria's Secret.
