
Jim Nantz, CBS sports studio host and commentator, will be the keynote speaker at the basketball tip-off luncheon at noon Friday, Oct. 13, in Webb Center.
Old Dominion standout and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman-Cline '00 will serve as the emcee for the luncheon, which will also feature members of the men's and women's basketball teams.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for Old Dominion students, and may be purchased at the athletic ticket office, 683-4444, by Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Nantz joined CBS in 1985 as host of the college football studio show and has covered virtually every sport for the network. He serves as anchor of "The NFL Today," and among his extensive credits are prime-time host of CBS's coverage of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, anchor of CBS's golf coverage including, the Masters and the PGA Championship, and lead play-by-play announcer for college basketball, including the NCAA "Final Four."
Lieberman-Cline is one of the most celebrated athletes in Old Dominion history, leading the Lady Monarchs to back-to-back national titles in 1979 and 1980. A two-time national collegiate player-of-the-year, she played professionally for both men's and women's teams. She served as the general manager and head coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock the past three seasons. She is a familiar face on television, serving as a color analyst for women's basketball games on CBS, ESPN and other networks.
The luncheon will be followed later in the evening by "Monarch Madness" at 10 p.m. at the Field House. Admission is $1 with proceeds to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer. The event will feature contests for fans and culminate with the introduction of the men's and women's teams at midnight.
