Preliminary enrollment figure tops 18,500

Approximately 3,400 new students will begin the fall semester when classes start Saturday, Aug. 26. New students, including those transferring from other schools, bring the enrollment to more than 18,500.

"The final number of students won't be known until Weekend College, Internet course and TELETECHNET students finish registering," said John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement. "We are, however, pleased with the preliminary number and caliber of our incoming students."

Housing in Whitehurst, Rogers and Gresham halls, as well as Powhatan Village and the new housing facility, Old Dominion Inn/Monarch House, can accommodate 2,226 students. Approximately 98 percent of the available spaces were filled as of Aug. 21. TOP
