Bruce Rubin to serve as interim dean of College of Business & Public Admin.

Provost Jo Ann Gora announced recently that Bruce Rubin, director of the M.B.A. program and chair of the Insurance and Financial Services Center, has agreed to serve as interim dean of the College of Business and Public Administration. He will take over the duties of J. Taylor Sims, who stepped down July 1 to return to teaching in the marketing department.

In a letter to the faculty and staff in the College of Business and Public Administration, Gora said, "As M.B.A. program director, Bruce has increased enrollment in the program, raised admission standards, developed the weekend M.B.A. program and added flexibility to the program in order to offer it on TELETECHNET. He will serve as interim dean until the position is filled."

Gora also reported that a search committee to select the new dean has been formed and will be chaired by William Swart, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology. The search process will begin in September.

"I hope the search will result in the selection of a dean who can begin in July 2001," Gora said.

A member of the Old Dominion faculty since 1981, Rubin was appointed director of the Center for Insurance and Financial Services in 1993 and director of the M.B.A. program in 1994.

He received his bachelor's degree in economics from New York University, and his M.B.A., master's in economics and doctorate in financial economics from Case Western Reserve University. TOP
