
U.S. Sen. Paul Sarbanes of Maryland will speak on campus Thursday, Dec. 2, to open the Hellenic Cultural Studies Program's new Odyssey Lecture Series.
His talk will begin at 8 p.m. in the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
Sarbanes, a Democrat, has served in the Senate since 1976. He serves on the Joint Economic Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Committee on Budget and is the ranking member of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.
Sarbanes also serves as chairman of the Maryland Congressional Delegation. Prior to his election to the Senate, he was a three-term member of the House of Representatives.
A Rhodes Scholar, Sarbanes received his LL.B. degree in 1960 from Harvard Law School. As an attorney, he was an associate with two Baltimore law firms between 1961 and 1970.
