Korean native Yura Lee, 14,
performs here on Nov. 15

Fourteen-year-old Korean-born violinist Yura Lee will give a solo recital at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. She will be accompanied on the piano by Rohan De Silva.

The concert, which will include works by Mozart, Brahms, Bach, Kreisler and Ravel, is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lee began her violin studies at age 4. Three years later she made her debut with Korea's leading orchestra, KBS Symphony. In 1994 Lee moved to the United States and in 1997 received the Debut Artist of the Year prize at National Public Radio's "Performance Today" awards.

Lee has performed with the orchestras of Albany, Calgary, Columbus, Honolulu and Kansas City. She has also appeared with the Minnesota Orchestra, Flagstaff Symphony, Knoxville Symphony, Long Island Symphony, Long Island Philharmonic and Puerto Rico Symphony.

She has also appeared with the Bilbao Symphony in Spain and the Kuala Lumpur Symphony in Malaysia. In addition, Lee has been featured on CNN, "The Late Show with David Letterman," and NPR's "Performance Today."

De Silva, a native of Sri Lanka, spent six years at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he received many awards, including the Grover Bennett Scholarship. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the Julliard School. He was awarded a special prize as Best Accompanist at the 1990 Ninth International Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow.
