
The women’s studies program recently announced the winners of its 1999 essay contest for the best student papers on topics pertaining to women written from a feminist perspective.
Norfolk resident Martha Moore won first place in the graduate division for her paper “Aila: A Shadow of South African History.” She received $100 and a certificate for her participation.
Other winners in the graduate division included Dorothy Shaffer, of Norfolk, and Amy Rhodes, of Windsor, Va. Both students won honorable mention for their submissions.
In the undergraduate division of the essay contest, Mella Leibrand, of Chesapeake, and Kelly Reilly, of Norfolk, won honorable mention for their submissions.
