Payday surprise

Deborah Bauman (center), associate professor of dental hygiene and College of Health Sciences coordinator for Old Dominion’s Annual Fund campaign, recently handed out Payday candy bars – and toothbrushes – to fellow employees who contributed last year via payroll deduction to either the Annual Fund or Capital Campaign. Pictured are School of Nursing faculty members Phyllis Barham (left) and Kay Palmer. The Office of Development came up with the idea for the sweet reward; the candy bars, which were delivered to all employees across campus who donated by payroll deduction in 1999, were accompanied by a card stating, “A sweet thank you for sharing your payday with Old Dominion University.” Faculty and staff contributed $78,419 to the 1999 Annual Fund campaign, and this year’s goal has been set at $100,000. The campaign will run from March 27 to April 21. Employees who donate $100 or more will automatically be entered in a drawing for a free parking space for one year.
