The following faculty and administrators were quoted or featured in recent issues of national newspapers and magazines:

Harold G. Marshall, professor emeritus of biological sciences, was quoted in a March 10 Baltimore Sun story about Pfiesteria.

Gary Edgerton, chair of communication and theatre arts, was quoted in a Feb. 28 Los Angeles Times story about the popularity of Regis Philbin. It also ran in the March 7 edition of Newsday. He was also quoted in a March 8 Salon magazine story, “The Tao of ‘Seinfeld’.”

Beth O’Kelly, TELETECHNET site director at Lord Fairfax Community College, was quoted in a March 2 Washington Post story about Old Dominion’s distance education program.

James V. Koch, president, was quoted in a March 2 Dow Jones News Service story and a March 11 National Post story about e-commerce degrees.

James McLaughlin, Old Dominion’s new vice president for distance learning, was the subject of a story about the new position in the March 6 Washington Business Journal.

Robert Ash, eminent scholar of aerospace engineering, and Jim Cross, director of the university wind tunnel, were cited in a February Sport Aviation story about the testing of authentically reconstructed propellers from the Model B Wright Flyer at the wind tunnel.

John F. Toomey, associate professor of music, was the subject of a March 2 story about his selection for a SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award.

Jo Ann Gora, provost, was quoted in the story. (A story also ran in the March 2 Daily Press.)

James V. Koch, president, was quoted in a March 1 story about the state budget.

John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement, wrote a letter to the editor March 10 about the size and funding for the Constant Convocation Center.

Dana D. Burnett, vice president for student services, was quoted in a March 9 story about the Mace & Crown.

Maurice R. Berube, eminent scholar of educational leadership and counseling, was the subject of a March 5 Q&A commentary about his new book, “Eminent Educators.”

Carl O. Helvie, professor of nursing, was quoted in a Feb. 29 story about the closing of the Old Dominion University Nursing Center in Virginia Beach.

Scott R. Sechrist, associate professor of medical laboratory sciences, was featured in a March 10 Chesapeake Clipper story about his anti-smoking cartoon software that is being used in schools in Virginia and four other states.

Mable Smith, associate professor of nursing, was the subject of a Feb. 25 Chesapeake Clipper feature story.

Tim Seibles, assistant professor of English, was the subject of a March 10 Chesapeake Clipper feature story.

Lt. Gabriel Morgan, chief of campus police detectives, was featured in a Feb. 25 story about his successful investigation of stolen Jeep Cherokees.

Rusty Waterfield, director of communications/ network services, was quoted in a March 6 story about computer hackers.

G. Richard Whittecar, associate professor of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences, was the subject of a March 11 feature story his Sunday school class called “The Bible Rocks, or Geology of the Bible.”

Donald A. Myers, professor of educational curriculum and instruction, was quoted in a March 15 story about teachers and SOLs.

Robert Wojtowicz, chair of art, and Katherine Huntoon, director of the University Gallery, were quoted in a Feb. 24 Norfolk Compass story about the new art gallery.

Stephen K. Medvic, assistant professor of political science and geography, was quoted in a Feb. 29 CNN.com story about the GOP presidential primary in Virginia. He was also quoted Feb. 22 on the San Antonio Express-News Web site about John McCain’s campaign in Virginia.

James V. Koch, president, was interviewed March 9 by Voice of America about Old Dominion’s proposed degree programs in e-commerce. He was also quoted in a March 2 CBS MarketWatch story about e-commerce.

John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement, appeared on WVEC-TV’s “Dialogue” show March 12 to talk about Old Dominion’s partnership with the Urban League. Julie Dodd, director of the Women’s Center, was also interviewed for a segment about Women’s History Month.
