Bruce Hanna, director of Old Dominion's Pretlow Planetarium, will have an array of high-power telescopes and large binoculars available for members of the campus community and the general public to view the next total lunar eclipse, which will take place the night of Thursday, Jan. 20.
A result of the earth's shadow cast upon the moon, the eclipse will begin at 9:30 p.m. and the moon will be totally obscured just before midnight, Hanna said.
The moon will be high in the sky the night of Jan. 20 and, with favorable weather, conditions should be good for clear viewing, he added. People may call 683-4108 the day of the eclipse to hear a recorded message about the weather conditions. The event is free and open to the public.
To get to the Pretlow Planetarium, turn west off of Hampton Boulevard onto 45th Street and follow the street until it ends. Parking will be available on either side.
For more information call Hanna at 683-4108.
