Major events announced for fall semester
Old Dominion's fall semester calendar is filling up quickly, and now's the time to start marking your calendar for lectures, concerts, readings and other campus happenings you won't want to miss. Listed below are events scheduled to date (please note that events and activities are subject to change):
Sept. 7 - Joint open house, Filipino-American Student Cultural Center and the Dr. Hugo A. Owens African-American Cultural Center. Time TBA.
Sept. 10 - Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheon, featuring Clayton Christensen of the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, "Managing the Threat and Opportunity of Disruptive Technology"; noon, Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel. $
Sept. 13 - Norfolk Chamber Consort concert; 8 p.m., Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. $
Sept. 16 - President's Lecture Series, a panel discussion featuring Robert Holsworth, director of the Center for Public Policy at Virginia Commonwealth University; Mark Rozell, associate professor of politics at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.; Leo Wardrup Jr., a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since November 1991 and chairman of the House Republican Caucus; and Kenneth Plum, member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1978-80 and 1982 to the present, and recently retired director of adult and community education for Fairfax County Public Schools; 8 p.m., Mills Godwin Jr. Building auditorium.

Oct. 8-24 - Old Dominion University Theatre presents Shakespeare's "Anthony and Cleopatra"; 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, University Theatre. $
Oct. 11 - Gateways Music Festival Chamber Ensemble concert; 8 p.m., Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Oct. 11-15 - Old Dominion University Literary Festival, "The Spirit of the Word," with an opening event featuring local poets Jay Paul, Jane Ellen Glasser and Shelley Wagner; 7 p.m. (location TBA). Poet Rita Dove will be the guest for the closing program; 8 p.m., Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Oct. 14 - Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheon, featuring David Goode of Norfolk Southern Corp.; noon, Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel. $
