David M. Gillispie, former acting assistant director of the Physical Plant, died May 16 at Sentara Bayside Hospital. He was 57. Gillispie, who lived in Virginia Beach, was a native of Moberly, Mo.

He joined Old Dominion's Physical Plant staff in October 1987 as a buildings and grounds superintendent A. Gillispie became supervisor of the Work Management Center in 1992. During his tenure as acting assistant director, he also supervised the Physical Plant's grounds department and the moving and special events department.

Gillispie is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Gillispie; two daughters, Tammy J. Subotich and her husband, Dennis, of Norfolk and Krista L. Moore and her husband, David, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; two grandsons; and three brothers.

Gillispie was a member of Ferebee Halstead Memorial United Methodist Church and Doric Masonic Lodge No. 44.
