
Seven faculty members and administrators and 210 students were inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the university chapter's annual induction ceremony, held April 28 in Webb Center.
Noah V. Rogers, principal of Azalea Gardens Middle School in Norfolk, was inducted as an honorary initiate.
The initiation was held in conjunction with the University Awards Program for students, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs. Departments and colleges honored 106 students for academic achievement.
Faculty and administrators inducted as Phi Kappa Phi members were: Jim Calliotte, director of counseling and advising services; Terry Hickey, dean of the College of Sciences; Michael Hucles, associate professor of history; Janet Katz, associate dean of the College of Arts and Letters; Walter Kimbrough, director of student activities and leadership; William Swart, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology; and Charles E. Wilson Jr., associate professor of English.
David L. Netherton, who could not attend the ceremony, was announced as the winner of the Phi Kappa Phi Excellence in Teaching Award. He is a senior lecturer of occupational and technical studies.
Rhonda S. Houpt from the College of Sciences and Carolyn B. O'Donnell from the College of Health Sciences received the Outstanding Sophomore and Outstanding Junior Phi Kappa Phi awards. Christopher Libbey, from the College of Sciences, was announced as the Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship nominee.
