
Members of the campus community are invited to offer their thoughts about the university's proposed strategic plan for 2000-2005 at a series of town meetings next week.
Copies of "The Plan for the 21st Century" are available in the deans' offices, vice presidents' offices and at the University Library Reference Desk. The plan is also available on the university Web site. To retrieve it, go to the Old Dominion home page, click on the following: "About the University," "Important Links" and "Strategic Planning."
The plan includes 10 initiatives, each of which outlines objectives, action plans, responsible units, cost (if any) and dates by which specified action plans should be accomplished, if applicable.
The initiatives are as follows:
1. Provide a high-quality, distinctive undergraduate experience in a supportive environment that fosters student development, connecting knowledge and practice.
2. Provide excellent graduate programs that offer exceptional opportunities for scholarship, research, creative work and service.
3. Establish the fiscal and physical infrastructure and workload allocation policies required to promote and sustain high-quality research.
4. Develop selected programs of study to achieve national prominence.
5. Increase the range and quality of academic programs and support services offered at distance education sites and higher education centers.
6. Be recognized as the premier international university of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
7. Provide the information technology necessary to support strategic institutional initiatives.
8. Provide excellent services to enhance the quality of university life among constituencies.
9. Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that values the diversity of the faculty, staff and students.
10. Develop and enhance cooperative relationships that provide opportunities for instruction, research and service that benefit the university.
