The following faculty and administrators were quoted or featured in recent issues of national and international newspapers and magazines:

Katharine C. Kersey, chair of early childhood, speech-language pathology and special education, was quoted in a Jan. 12 Staten Island Advance story about adolescent swearing. The story was distributed by the Los Angeles Times News Service.

Carretta Cooke, director of multicultural student services, was quoted in a winter 1998 Heritage magazine story about the Filipino-American Student Cultural Center.

Maximiliane E. Szinovacz, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice, was quoted in the January issue of Mature American magazine about the odds of a person becoming a grandparent.

Harold G. Marshall, professor emeritus of biological sciences, was quoted in a Jan. 9 Charlotte Observer story about Pfiesteria. The story, which also appeared in other Carolina papers, was distributed by the Associated Press.

Daniel N. Nelson, professor of international studies, wrote an article, "Damage Control: By Tackling Illicit Arms Sales, the United States Hopes to Defuse the Light Arms Campaign and Protect the Legal Trade" for the January-February issue of Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

JoAnn McCarthy, executive director of international programs, was quoted in a Jan. 18 story about the demand for international students.

Alan M. "Woody" Schwitzer, assistant professor of educational leadership and counseling, wrote an op-ed piece, "Good Social-Work Care Is a Matter of Degree Ð College Degree," for the Jan. 29 issue.

Gilbert R. Yochum, chair of economics, J. R. Bullington, director of the Center for Global Business and Executive Education, and Vinod B. Agarwal, professor of economics, were quoted in a Jan. 7 story about the economic forecast for Hampton Roads and Virginia. Yochum was also quoted in a Jan. 14 story about a study of Virginia Beach tourism.

Jennifer Mullen, media relations specialist with the Office of University Relations, was quoted in a Feb. 3 story about a $300,000 capital campaign gift from NationsBank and the proposed naming of the Entrepreneurial Center.

Celestyne Diggs-Porter, a supervisor of student teachers in the Darden College of Education, was the subject of a feature story, in connection with her selection for a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals organization, in the Jan. 28 issue. Roger F. Strand, former director of teacher education services, was also quoted.

David Swain, director of the Wellness Institute and Research Center, was quoted in a Jan. 28 story about Old Dominion's ElderFitness program.

Janis Krebs Smith, associate director of the Career Management Center, was quoted in a Jan. 2 story about the college labor market.

Lytton Musselman, professor of biological sciences, was featured in a Jan. 23 column about an exhibit at Nauticus titled "Mysteries of the Bog."

Sharon Raver-Lampman, professor of child study and special education, was cited in a Jan. 22 story and a Jan. 28 Norfolk Compass story in connection with her Fulbright award to teach in India.

Carl O. Helvie, professor of nursing, was cited in a Jan. 29 story in connection with his Distinguished Career Award from the American Public Health Association.

James R. Sweeney, associate professor of history, was quoted in a Feb. 1 Richmond Times-Dispatch story about the late Gov. Mills E. Godwin Jr.

Billie M. Reed, executive director of the Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority, was quoted in Virginia Business's January cover story, "The Final Frontier: Virginia Joins the Space Race." His picture also appeared on the cover.

Jim Cross, manager of the university wind tunnel at NASA Langley Research Center, was quoted in a January Hampton Roads Technology newsletter story about the wind tunnel.

Glen Wheless, research assistant professor, Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography, was quoted in a January Hampton Roads Technology newsletter story about the center's work in simulation research.

Thomas J. Socha, associate professor of communication, was featured in a February Mothering Matters newsletter story about his and his students' study of the children's TV show "Blue's Clues."

J. R. Bullington, director of the Center for Global Business and Executive Education, wrote an article for the Dec. 30 issue of Inside Business, "Can We Avoid a Crash in 1999?"

James L. Bugg Jr., president emeritus and eminent professor emeritus of history, was quoted in a Feb. 1 Richmond Times-Dispatch story about the late Gov. Mills E. Godwin Jr.

Ron Snapp, associate professor of art, was quoted in a Feb. 2 Port Folio story about Norfolk's Wonder Gallery.

Helen Rountree, professor of sociology, was quoted in a Jan. 7 Rappahannock Record story about Northumberland County Public Library's "Books Alive" series.

Steve A. Yetiv, assistant professor of political science, was interviewed by Virginia News Network Feb. 5 about the implications of the impending death of Jordan's King Hussein for the peace process. He was interviewed Feb. 9 by WNIS radio about Jordan's historical background and the death of King Hussein.
