Hands-on demonstrations, contests to be featured at Engineering Open House

Dramatic performance among events scheduled
for Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 23-27

The A.C.T. Out Ensemble, a social issues theater troupe, will perform on Thursday, Feb. 26, as part of Old Dominion's Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 23-27. Sponsored by Counseling Services, the performance will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the North Mall of Webb Center.

The troupe's "Body Loathing . . . Body Love" performance will focus on eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. A nationally recognized touring theater troupe, the A.C.T. Out Ensemble uses drama, music and dance to create powerful one-act plays on social issues. Composed of 20 professional actors from Indianapolis, the ensemble has performed for more than 10,000 people nationwide.

In addition to this performance, other programs about eating disorders will be offered throughout the week. All are free and open to the public.

Also scheduled for the week are:
  • Feb. 24 - "How Do I Look?" - an interactive group discussion, focusing on the role the media play in portraying ideal beauty, how sociocultural factors affect body image and ways to develop a better body image; 12:30-1:30 p.m., room 1526, Webb Center, and 7-8 p.m., Powhatan II Apartments, Community Room.
  • Feb. 25 - "Body Image: Reflections from the Mirror in the Mind" - a self-help workshop for those dealing with negative body image; 7-8 p.m., Whitehurst Hall.
  • Eating Disorders Information Session; 1:45-2:45 p.m., Suffolk Room, Webb Center. For more information about Eating Disorders Awareness Week, call Counseling Services at 683-4401.
