
A 10-year retrospective
David Johnson, associate professor of photography, will be featured in a 10-year retrospective of his work, "Forty to Fifty in Ten Years," at the University Gallery. The exhibition will open to the public with a reception, celebrating Johnson's 50th birthday at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23. The University Gallery is located at 765 Granby St. in Norfolk. The exhibition will continue through March 20 and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, or by appointment. Call 683-2843. Johnson, a long-time resident of Norfolk, has taught photography since 1977 in the art department. Noted for his quick wit and emphasis on contemporary culture, he produces work that draws a wide audience. His work is well known regionally and has been included in exhibitions throughout Virginia. Additionally, his work is shown at universities and museums throughout the United States, including: The Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin, Mo.; Intuit, the Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art in Chicago; University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls; Murray State University in Murray, Ky.; Delta Axis Gallery in Memphis, Tenn.; Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colo.; South Eastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, N.C.; University of Colorado-Boulder; and the Denver Art Museum. Each of the works exhibited will be on sale for $150. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Wally Dreyer Gallery Endowment.
