Darden College of Education

Ms. Pamela L. Arnold, Research Associate in the Center for Educational Partnerships, received an M.A. in Social Studies Education and a B.A. in Political Science/History, in 1991 and 1990 respectively, from the State University of New York at Albany and is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at the State University of New York at Albany. Previously she was an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at the Sage Colleges.

Dr. He Yan Beal, Associate Professor of STEM Education and Professional Studies, received a Ph.D. in Clothing, Textiles and Merchandising in 1997 from Florida State University, an M.S. in Computer Sciences and Telecommunication in 1987 from Shanghai Institute of Railway Technology and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1984 from Northern Jiaotong University, Beijing. Previously she was an Associate Professor of Fashion Merchandising in the Department of Child, Family and Consumer Sciences at California State University, Fresno.

Dr. Jonna Linkous Bobzien, Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders and Special Education, received a Ph.D. in Special Education with emphasis on Severe Disabilities and Autism, an M.S.Ed. with emphasis on Severe Disabilities (K-12), and a B.S. in Biology, in 2009, 2003 and 1996 respectively, from Old Dominion University. Previously she was a Lecturer and Adjunct Instructor in the Darden College of Education.

Ms. Megan E. Britt, Lecturer of Teaching and Learning, received a Master of Arts in Teaching with English certifications in 1996 from Union College and a B.A. in Communications in 1992 from Boston College. She has been a Graduate Assistant in the Ph.D. program in the Darden College of Education.

Dr. Joseph L. DeVitis, Visiting Professor of Educational Foundations and Leadership, received a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies/Social Foundations of Education in 1972 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.A. in 1982 in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University, and an M.Ed. in Foundations of Education and a B.A. in History, in 1969 and 1967 respectively, from Johns Hopkins University. Previously he was a Program Coordinator in the John H. Lounsbury School of Education at Georgia College and State University and Associate Professor.

Ms. Karen A. Eagle, Instructor of STEM Education and Professional Studies, received an M.S.Ed. in Occupational and Technical Studies in 2010 from Old Dominion University and a B.S. in Marketing Education in 1983 from James Madison University. She has been a Teaching Assistant in the Department of STEM Education and Professional Studies at Old Dominion University.

Ms. Sadé Edens, Instructor of Early Care and Education, Child Development Center, received an M.S. and B.S. in Early Childhood Education, in 2010 and 2009 respectively, from Old Dominion University. Previously she was a Student Teacher at James Monroe Elementary School and completed a Practicum at the Child Study Center.

Dr. Todd D. Fantz, Assistant Professor of STEM Education and Professional Studies, received a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies - Interdisciplinary Studies: Engineering Education in 2009 from Colorado State University, an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, Science Education in 2002 from the University of Colorado, Denver and a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1995 from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Previously he was a coordinator of First-Year Instruction at the University of Northern Colorado.

Dr. Melva R. Grant, Assistant Professor of STEM Education and Professional Studies, received a Ph.D. and an M.Ed. in Mathematics Education, in 2009 and 1998 respectively, from The Ohio State University, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1984 from the University of Maryland and a B.S. in Mathematics in 1983 from Coppin State University. Previously she was a Co-Instructor at The Ohio State University and an Independent Educational Consultant.

Mr. Carmine R. Grieco, Instructor of Human Movement Sciences, received an M.S. in Exercise Science in 2008 from Old Dominion University and a B.S. in Exercise Science in 1996 from the University of Wyoming. He has been a Teaching Assistant and Adjunct Instructor at Old Dominion University.

Ms. Dorice A. Hankemeier, Instructor of Human Movement Sciences, received an M.S.Ed. in Physical Education in 2003 from Old Dominion University, a B.S. in Exercise Science in 2001 from Central College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Movement Sciences at Old Dominion University. She has been an Instructor in the Department of Human Movement Sciences at Old Dominion University.

Dr. Julie Haun-Frank, Assistant Professor of STEM Education and Professional Studies, received a Ph.D. in Teacher Education & Development in 2010 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2003 from Ferris State University and a B.S. in Biology in 1998 from Wayne State University. Previously she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Dr. Tara M. Hill, Assistant Professor of Counseling & Human Services, received a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision in 2009 from the University of Toledo and an M.A. in Counseling in 2000 from Heidelberg College. She is anticipating a Ph.D. in Foundations of Education, Research and Measurement in 2011 and a School Counselor Endorsement in 2010. Previously she was an Instructor, Graduate Assistant and Research Assistant in the Department of Counselor Education and School Psychology at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Linda Irwin-DeVitis, Dean of the Darden College of Education and Professor of Teaching and Learning, holds a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Tennessee, and she received a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans. Previously she was the Dean of the Lounsbury School of Education at Georgia College & State University, Associate Dean at the University of Lousiville, and a faculty member at SUNY Binghamton and Oneonta and the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Sue Crownfield Kimmel, Assistant Professor of Teaching and Learning, received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2010 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.S. in Library Science in 1982 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Mathematics in 1979 from Guilford College. Previously she was Library Media Coordinator at Gillespie Park Elementary School, Greensboro, NC.

Dr. Nial P. Quinlan, Lecturer of Counseling and Human Services, received a Ph.D. in Counseling and an M.S.Ed. in Community Agency Counseling, in 2009 and 2004 respectively, from Old Dominion University and a B.S.M. in Management in 1981 from Tulane University. Previously he was in private practice and an Adjunct Instructor and Counselor in the Counseling Center at Old Dominion University.

Dr. Corrin G. Richels, Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders and Special Education, received a Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology in 2004 from Vanderbilt University, an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology in 1996 from James Madison University, and a B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in 1994, also from James Madison University. Previously she was a Speech-Language Pathologist for Chesapeake City Public Schools and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University.

Dr. Jennifer Sughre, Associate Professor of Educational Foundations and Leadership, received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership in 1997 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, an M.A. in Guidance Counseling in 1978 from California State University and a B.A. in Biological Sciences in 1973 from the University of California Berkeley. Previously she was an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Christine A. Ward, Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Services, received a Ph.D. in Counselor Education in 2009 from Texas A&M University, an M.Ed. in Counselor Education in 2005 from the University of North Florida, and a B.S. in Business Administration in 2001 from Trinity University. She has been a Research Scientist for the Darden College of Education's Program for Research and Evaluation in Public Schools.
