Harvey Lindsay joined the firm of Harvey Lindsay and Company, now NAI Harvey Lindsay, Commercial Real Estate Services, Worldwide, in January 1954. He was elected president and CEO in 1969 and currently serves as chairman of the company. He served two years' active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps with service as a platoon leader in Korea and six years in the Reserves, where he attained the rank of captain.
Lindsay graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., in 1947, and from the University of Virginia in 1951 with a BA in history.
Lindsay has long been known as a community leader. He currently serves on the boards of the Tidewater Scholarship Foundation, Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, Norfolk State University Foundation and Virginia Power and Dominion Resources, Inc. His past affiliations - often as a founder, and later, as a guiding force - span all the facets of a vibrant urban culture, from service to youth and racial harmony, to businesses and civic development. Some of these include the YMCA, the Urban Coalition of Norfolk, Southside Boys' Club, United Communities Fund and later, the United Way, Norfolk Board of Realtors, Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, and the Urban League of Hampton Roads. He was co-chairman on the major gifts committee for Old Dominion University's first comprehensive capital campaign in the late '90s and has also served on the board of the ODU Real Estate Foundation and the Board of Visitors of the Medical College of Hampton Roads.
In honor of his contributions to the community, Lindsay has been honored with many awards including: Distinguished Service Award from the Norfolk Junior Chamber of Commerce; Service to Mankind Award from the Norfolk Sertoma Club; Vivian Mason Meritorious Service Award from the Urban League of Hampton Roads; Brotherhood Citation from the Tidewater Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Inc.; Norfolk's First Citizen Award from the Cosmopolitan Club; the Liberty Bell Award from the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association; and the Marketing Excellence Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Tidewater.
Lindsay resides in Norfolk, with his wife, Frances Martin. They have five children and 14 grandchildren.
