Lynn Hopewell was ranked among the country's Top 60 Financial Advisers by Worth magazine in 1996. The Wall Street Journal called him the "dean of retirement counselors in the United States." He is also named in several Who's Who directories. He retired in 1999 as chairman for the Monitor Group, Inc., an investment advisory firm that specializes in retirement and estate planning. In retirement, he now writes columns for his local newspaper and is working on five books.

Hopewell served, among other positions, as editor of the Journal of Financial Planning, adviser to Intuit, Inc., associate professor at George Washington University, operations director at Computer Sciences Corp., vice president at Network Analysis Corp., and as a staff officer for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. He also developed retirement planning software for T. Rowe Price.

In 1958, Hopewell received an associate of arts degree from the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary, a bachelor of science in physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1961, and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1968.

Hopewell is the winner of many honors including the Certified Financial Planners' Board of Standards Meritorious Article Award in 1994 for a series of papers on retirement needs analysis modeling. Several of his professional activities include co-producer of www.montecarlosimulation.com, a Web site to educate financial planners; member of the Financial Planning Association; and member of the CFP Board of Standards board of governors.

A native of Portsmouth, Hopewell currently lives in Warrenton, Va., with his wife Leslie. They have five grown children.
