Health Sciences Training and Certification

The College of Health Sciences evaluates and awards experiential learning credit hours to degree seeking students in health professions who have completed professionally accredited training programs outside the university setting. Current academic credit awards for health sciences training, licenses or certifications for BSHS students at Old Dominion University include the following: Radiologic Technologist Registered Nurse Physical Therapy Assistant Nuclear Medicine Technologist Emergency Medical Technologist First Responder with CPR Emergency Medical Technologist Basic Level Emergency Medical Technologist Shock Trauma Level Emergency Medical Technologist paramedic Level MELT/MLT (medical lab technician, 1 year and 2 year- programs) Medical Administrative Assistant Licensed Practical Nurse CNA/CDA (Certified Nursing/Dental Assistant) Certified Health Information Technologist Certified Medical Assistant The number of credit hours awarded is determined by the content, length and nature of the training program, and varies between 5 and 45 credit hours. Degree seeking students in the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences may apply these hours toward their professional/technical electives. BSHS students should complete a  training evaluation request form and submit it to Sandra Breeden in the College of Health Sciences along with their BSHS application.
