Lauryn Johnson

Lauryn Johnson was appointed by the Board of Visitors as its Student Representative on on May 18, 2009.  Ms. Johnson is a senior at Old Dominion University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with an emphasis in public relations. She also minors in both English and Marketing.

Ms. Johnson interns at ODU’s own Center for Service & Civic Engagement. She is responsible for the coordination of the Adopt-a-Spot @ ODU program where students participate in a monthly campus-wide clean up that helps keep the ODU community beautiful and eco-friendly. She is the coordinator of “BLUE goes GREEN week,” which is a series of events presented to the ODU community that focuses on sustainable living. She also remodeled and reintroduced the “Monarch 2 Monarch” mentorship program- a revamped initiative to pair freshmen students with upperclassmen mentors ensuring the incoming freshmen a smooth transition into college. 

As a part of her extracurricular activities, Lauryn is president of the student organization, T.R.U.S.T., which seeks to establish a commitment of service to Old Dominion University and the surrounding communities. Her involvement with this organization has granted her the opportunity to engage in several community service projects, travel to Chicago to assist the homeless, and co-chair scholarship fund events to raise money for First Generation college-bound high school students in the Hampton Roads area. She also serves as a senator of the Student Government Association.

After graduating from Old Dominion University, she hopes to obtain her master’s degree in Community Development and Action offered at Vanderbilt University. She aspires to establish a career in the non-profit sector working towards the betterment of our society and its people.

Lauryn Johnson is a native of Boston, Massachusetts, but spent the majority of her life in Northern Virginia.
