Kenneth R. Plum '65 was one of 10 elected officials to be honored by the U.S. Internet Council with the Internet Leadership Award. It was presented for his leadership in advancing public policies that promote the growth of the Internet and extending its benefits. Robert J. O'Neill Jr. '73 has been appointed president of the National Academy of Public Administration, a nonprofit organization chartered by Congress to improve the design and management of federal, state and local governments. He was scheduled to assume the post Jan. 17. Since August 1997, O'Neill had served as Fairfax County executive, a position in which he oversaw Virginia's largest general-purpose local government with an annual operating budget of $2 billion and approximately 11,000 employees.
