CCNY Dean Named VP For Research
Mohammad A. Karim, former dean of engineering at City College of New York (CCNY) of the City University of New York (CUNY), joins Old Dominion July 1 as vice president for research. He was selected following a nationwide search.
Karim had served as dean of engineering at the New York campus since 2000. He also served as a professor of electrical engineering. He came to CCNY from the University of Tennessee, where he was a professor and department head for the electrical and computer engineering division.
He has also held faculty positions at the University of Dayton, Wichita State University and the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Karim earned his doctorate, as well as masters degrees in both physics and electrical engineering, from the University of Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Dacca in Bangladesh.
According to President Roseann Runte, Karim brings a strong record to ODU in the areas of interdisciplinary and multiuniversity academic and research initiatives, research infrastructure development, academic leadership, collaborative decision-making and sponsored research.
Karim has a significant record of scholarly and research accomplishments, and has generated sponsored research in excess of $4 million.
