Former Lady Monarchs coaching, playing in WNBA
Old Dominion was well-represented when the WNBA opened its fourth season May 28.
Anne Donovan '83, former interim coach of the Indiana Fever, is the new coach in Charlotte, and helping the Sting on the court will be Clarisse Machanguana '97, who came back east in a trade from Los Angeles. Also, former Lady Monarch coach Marianne Stanley has joined the Washington Mystics as an assistant.
The league's three-time assist leader, Ticha Penicheiro '98, is back with the Sacramento Monarchs, who are led by former Old Dominion men's coach Sonny Allen and his assistant, former Lady Monarch Maura McHugh '75.
Also returning this season are Adrienne Goodson '88 of the Utah Starzz and Mery Andrade '99 of the Cleveland Rockers.
