Alumni host receptions for admitted students

Prospective and recently admitted Old Dominion students from the New York City area got a treat May 8 when they were invited to an Alumni Association reception on the set of "Good Morning America." The event was hosted by Bob McKinnon '75 (Front row, fourth from right), director of the ABC morning news show. Other area alumni on hand for the event included Donna Scott '84 (front row, second from right) and Doug Wedeck '85 (back row, far right).

lumni across the country this spring have been helping Old Dominion recruit the best and brightest students under the auspices of the Alumni-Admissions Partners Program. This year, for the first time, former students hosted receptions for admitted students in their homes, board rooms and clubs in an effort to encourage them to enroll at their alma mater.

Among the events held in May were:

-- New York City - Robert D. McKinnon '75, director of "Good Morning America," hosted metro-New York students on the set of the ABC news program. McKinnon is a member of the Metropolitan New York City Pride and a 1995 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.

-- Philadelphia - Robert W. Loy '63 and his wife, Nortrud, welcomed greater-Philadelphia-area students into their Doylestown, Pa., home. Loy is a member of the Philadelphia Pride and a 1996 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.

-- Fort Lauderdale - Trisha P. Guarnieri '87 and her husband, Robert, hosted Florida students in their Boca Raton home. She is also leading an effort to organize a South Florida Pride.

-- San Diego - David P. Price '96 welcomed Southern California students at an event in his La Jolla Merrill Lynch office board room. Price is chair of the San Diego Pride organizing committee.

-- San Francisco - Glenn C. Gregory '79 chose Maxwell's, a trendy South San Francisco Bay hot spot, to serve as the place for Northern California students to meet. He is a member of the San Francisco Pride organizing committee.
