Marina DiGiacomo wins Honda Award

The 2000 season was a particularly fruitful one for the field hockey program.

After leading the Lady Monarchs to their ninth national title, Marina DiGiacomo '01 was selected as the Honda Sports Award winner for field hockey, symbolic of the nation's top collegiate player in the sport, while head coach Beth Anders was honored for the second time as National Coach of the Year.

Also this year, former standout Yogi Hightower '85, the university's first Honda Award winner in field hockey, was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
