| Graduates From First Dental Hygiene Class Reunite
Fourteen members of the dental hygiene class of 1969 returned to campus Oct. 23 for a 35th reunion celebration. They were not only the first class to graduate from the Old Dominion program, but also the first dental hygiene graduates in Virginia.
Alumnae and their spouses kicked off the reunion weekend with a cocktail party and buffet dinner in Webb Center. At a brunch the following morning, Deanne Shuman 74 (M.S. 76, Ph.D. 00), chair of the Gene H. Hirschfeld Dental Hygiene School, spoke to the group about the growth and expansion of the program. The program offers both bachelors and masters degrees and boasts the only dental hygiene research center in the world that focuses solely on research. After Shumans talk, the class was given a tour of the Dental Hygiene Clinic.
Some of the dental hygiene alumnae in attendance were Bonnie Bryan Smith, Beth Winegar Goodman, Cathy Riddle Reid, Susan Brown Yindra, Jo Lee Brown Kenney, Stracie Petroutsa Maniatis, Jan J. Tucker, Debbie Prudent Pool, Trudy Cosby Levitin and Ann Peele Mitchell.
