Robert E. Fentress 47 has been reappointed by the Virginia Beach City Council to the Virginia Beach Development Authority for another four-year term. He is the authoritys treasurer and second assistant secretary.
Irvine B. Hill 49 of Norfolk, retired vice president of public affairs for Cox Communications Hampton Roads, was inducted into the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Associations Virginia Cable Hall of Fame.

Cal Gibbs 58 wrote in July that his daughter recently had twins in Texas. Cal lives in Keller, Texas.
1960s
Thomas M. Oliver 64 is in his 40th year as a teacher, coach and athletic director. He lives in Chesapeake and works at Hickory High School.
Robert Welder 64 was widowed on March 6, 2003. His new address is HC81, Box 3, Greenville, W.Va. 24945.
Frances Curtis Craig 66 (M.S. 74) and Charlie Craig 70 (M.S. 78) retired from Norfolk Public Schools in 2003. Charlie taught marketing and business at Booker T. Washington High School. Frances, who was the media specialist at Maury High School, has become a pastor in the United Methodist Church since retiring.
Berkley E. Ashby (M.S.Ed. 68, C.A.S. 72, Ph.D. 92) is the author of a self-published workbook, About 400 Tips for Teachers, which he describes as a hands-on tool for classroom teachers in grades K-12. The cost is $7.95. Berkley has worked in the professional education field over the past 30 years as a teacher, guidance counselor, principal and assistant superintendent. Margaret Windley 68 (M.A. 92) was elected last year to a full three-year term on the Portsmouth History Commission and was elected as chair.

Coleen S. Clemente 70 has transferred her position as a hearings officer for the Oregon Department of Corrections from Umatilla (Two Rivers Correctional Institution) to Salem (Oregon State Penitentiary), where she conducts misconduct hearings for convicted felons.
Craig M. Hoel 70 became a new grandpa last year to two children by daughters Beth and Gretchen. Their names are Maxwell David Peck and Abigail Diane Underwood. Craig lives in Wentzville, Mo.
David Ort 70 retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections in 1997. He was called as full-time pastor of the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren in September. David has been an adjunct instructor at Mount Aloysius College since 1995, teaching psychology, sociology, history and criminal justice. He was an adjunct at Juniata College in 1998-99, teaching sociology and criminology. He lives in Altoona, Pa.
Dr. Bob Baxter 71 was recently promoted to vice president with Remtech Services Inc. in Newport News, a federal services division of SCB. Bobs training technology staff includes a number of former ODU students and staff: Terresita Alston, Alan Rick Fischer, Helen Anne Jones and Galen Snowden. They have been involved in the creation and hosting of an extensive Web-based training course developed for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services available at www.oasistraining.org.
Donald Bryant 71 teaches philosophy, speech and professional business communications as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Nazarene College. He lives in Pembroke, Mass.
Cathy Dunn 71 has returned to Hampton Roads following a 13-year stay in Connecticut and joined KITCO Fiber Optics in Virginia Beach as business development manager. She has more than 13 years of sales and marketing experience in the telecommunications industry and holds the Registered Communications Distribution Designer designation.
T.A. Ted Grell Jr. 71 has been elected first vice president of the Virginia Association of Community Banks. He will also serve on the board and on the executive committee of the statewide trade association. Ted is president of Resource Bank.
Robert W. Harrell Jr. (M.B.A. 71) has been named vice president of commonwealth initiatives for Virginias Center for Innovative Technology. A Suffolk resident, he is based in CITs South Hampton Roads Region office.
Ann Lovingood (M.S.Ed. 71) retired from Chesapeake Public Schools in 1999 after 36 years of teaching English.
John R. Boyce 72 is one of three CPAs who have formed Boyce, Spady & Moore PLC Certified Public Accountants and Consultants. The Hampton Roads firm will serve clients primarily from the Suffolk and Isle of Wight areas.

Ronald Stephenson (M.S.Ed. 72) retired in 1999 as coordinator of adult education for Chesapeake Public Schools. He moved to North Carolina in 2002, and last fall became a part-time math instructor at Pitt Community College.
Stephen Wiseman 73 (M.B.A. 00) was promoted to human resources manager for Ford Motor Co.s St. Louis assembly plant in January 2003.
Wally Scherer 74 was married on March 17, 2003, to Jenice Dugas of Houston. He lives in Palm Beach County, Fla. Wally practices full time as a piano tuner/technician and operates his business under the name A Fine Tune.
Don Hipple 75 retired last year from the Highway Department and has joined the Virginia Beach Police Department as a part-time aide.
Terry Martin 75 has joined the Interiors Studio of Clark Nexsen in Norfolk as an interior architect.
Laurie Powell OLeary 75 recently retired from her civil service position as business manager, Naval Support Activity, Norfolk. Dr. Robert Lehman 76 (M.S. 79), along with Drs. Sandra Wechsler and Marnet Nash, have relocated their Pediatric Affiliates of Hampton Roads Norfolk office to 200 Grayson Road in Virginia Beach.
Linda B. McCluney (M.S.Ed. 76, Ph.D. 84) was appointed last year to the Norfolk Community Services Board. She is dean of academic affairs at the Joint Forces Staff College.
Jeffrey 76 and Vicki Charrier Weber 76 have relocated to Brookfield, Wis., where he is president of the FIS Business Unit with FISERV. Vicki teaches Spanish at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Milwaukee.

Karen Ellsworth 77 (M.S.Ed. 78) is a reading specialist for high-risk students with San Diego City Schools. She has 20 grandchildren.
Sandra Seaborn (M.S.Ed. 77) was named district Teacher of the Year for 2003-04. A third-grade teacher at McIntosh Elementary School in Newport News, she has taught for 35 years.
Doris S. Boring 78 remarried on Oct. 12, 2001. Her husband, Keith Parker, retired shortly thereafter from his position as a senior chief in the Navy. They bought a house in Norfolk, where they both work for the government on the Navy base. Doris, who now goes by Doris S. Parker, has a son, Casey, who is in the Marine Corps, stationed at Camp LeJeune. He was recently deployed in Okinawa, Japan.
Ross B. Emmett 78 is an associate professor at James Madison College, Michigan State University. He married Kim Birchall in October 2002.
Maj. Michael R. Mason 78, U.S. Army (ret.), is the senior engineering geophysicist with RIS Corp. in Knoxville. He contributes professionally to design and fielding of next-generation technologies for digital geophysical mapping for, primarily, unexploded ordnance and radiological contamination. He is registered as a Certified Environmental Specialist and as a Registered Professional Geologist. Michael and his wife, Sue, live in Andersonville, Tenn. Dr. Anthony Savage 78 was elected last year to continue serving as director of the Virginia Association of Orthodontists, a nonprofit organization.
Ken Smith 78 lives in central North Carolina with his wife and two children. He serves as director of counseling for Oak Ranch Inc., a residential foster home for at-risk children. Yvonne Wilson Boone 79 writes that her watercolor, Under the Towering Cliffs, received the honorable mention award of $300 at the 24th annual Virginia Watercolor Society Jurored Exhibition at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News. She recently had watercolors in the 20th annual North American Miniature Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Fells Point in Baltimore.

Pamela Latimer 81 is a mid-level manager with the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Centers Environmental Information Systems Branch in Port Hueneme, Calif., which collects and reports Navy environmental compliance data.
David Musgrave 81 received the master of philosophy in Hebraic and Cognate Studies from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati in May. The degree is awarded as part of the schools Ph.D. program.
William S. Amos Jr. 82 (M.E. 97) and Stephanie Moulton 86 were married Nov. 2, 2002. Their daughter, Rachel Grace, was born Sept. 14, 2003. The family lives in Chesterfield County, Va. Sara Nair James (M.A. 83) (Sara James Laster during her student days), recently published Signorelli and Fra Angelico at Orvieto: Liturgy, Poetry and a Vision of the End-time (see In Print page). Since 1991, Sara has taught at Mary Baldwin College, where she is an associate professor of art history. She is the mother of four children and became a grandmother in July. Her husband, David L. Mims, is a retired businessman (IBM) and entrepreneur.
Elizabeth Bishop Kimbriel 83 has been selected from a national field of candidates for the inaugural class of the Connecting Communities Fellowship Program, an intensive training course in key skills for initiating and sustaining change. The fellowship is a program of the international network Initiatives of Change and its national program, Hope in the Cities, which has its headquarters in Richmond. CCFP is designed to increase the capacity of communities to overcome divisions of race and culture, wealth and jurisdiction, by creating a network of skilled facilitators, team builders, advocates and role models. The program equips leaders with increased ability to address critical issues and to work creatively to build shared visions for reconciliation and justice. Joe Pettoni 83 has been selected by the Army as the first civilian head of morale, welfare and recreation for the southwest Asia theater of operations, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and Djibouti. Phanindra Jujjavarapu (M.S. 84) has joined IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, as vice president of engineering. He is responsible for managing IP Infusions core engineering team in its San Jose, Calif., corporate headquarters and overseeing the companys product development projects.
Elizabeth Lloyd 85 (M.P.A. 95) was elected last year to represent Virginia and North Carolina on the Volunteer Center National Network Council. She is executive director of Volunteer Hampton Roads.

Daniel Griffin 86 of Portsmouth was promoted to one-star general with the U.S. Air Force National Guard. He has acted locally and on Broadway, and is a member of the Black Filmmaker Association, National Recording Society of Arts and Science and the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals Association. He is included in several Whos Who books, including Whos Who in America, 2000-Present, Whos Who in Entertainment, 2000-Present and Whos Who in the World, 2002-Present. Daniel plays alto and soprano saxophone and piano on different celebrities music CDs and DVDs. He is also a mentor at several schools in Hampton Roads.

Thomas Dooling 89 (M.S. 90, Ph.D. 95) announces the birth of a son, Sean Thomas, in June 2001. Thomas, who teaches physics, received tenure and promotion at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2002. He also serves as chair of the Faculty Senate.

Mike Schmid 89 (M.B.A. 93) has joined Wolfgang Candy in York, Pa., as a member of the companys new management team. Founded in 1921, Wolfgang is one of the oldest family-owned and managed confectionery manufacturers in the country.
Yuesheng Xu (Ph.D. 89) of Jamesville, N.Y., has joined the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University as a professor in the mathematics department. Previously, he was the Eberly Chair Professor of Mathematics at West Virginia University. He is managing editor of Advances in Computational Mathematics, an international mathematical journal.

Enid F. Brice (M.E.M. 90) has accepted a position at Kennedy Space Center in the systems management office, where she works on Return to Flight issues.
Marcus Harris 90 and his wife, Daphne, announce the birth of their second child, Donovan Reid, on May 5, 2003. Their daughter, Corbyn Seymone, is in kindergarten. Marcus was recently honored with the Bell Laboratories Presidents Silver Award for his contribution to Lucents Super Distributed Home Location Register project.

Previously, Melissa was senior vice president of human resources and strategic planning for Dollar General Corp. She serves on the boards of Vanderbilt University Diabetes Center, Nashville Ballet and United Way of Middle Tennessee.

Margaret Konefal (Ph.D. 91) writes that she still calls Texas home, but her heart is in Tidewater. She recently passed the certification exam for nursing administration, advanced. Margaret is director of women and infants services at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston. She and Jim Gallagher were married in February 2003, creating a new family with his five and my four adult children, their spouses plus seven grandchildren. We were treated to a grand tour of Ireland in April seven of us in an eight-passenger van.
