In addition to those of the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs and their coaches, some other familiar faces appeared on court this season at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Philadelphia 76ers star and Hampton native Allen Iverson led his team in an Oct. 20 NBA exhibition game against the New Orleans Hornets, while ODU alums Inge Nissen ’81 and Cindy Russo ’75, assistant coach and head coach, respectively, of Florida International University, returned to their alma mater Dec. 15 for a game against ODU. Nissen played on two Lady Monarch national championship teams, while Russo was a collegiate teammate of current ODU coach Wendy Larry ’77.
