Remembering Favorite Professors

I was deeply saddened by the news of Dr. Wolfgang Pindur's death. He was a fabulous mentor. I owe him a tremendous debt. As a program evaluator, I shall always aspire to the high standards he set.

This is simply to echo the previous comments regarding Bill Whitehurst and his teaching. He is not only far and away my favorite professor, but also, along with Mrs. Whitehurst, a dear friend of our family.

Dr. Whitehurst makes his lectures come alive by making his students feel as if they were actually there, witnessing events firsthand. His experiences, coupled with his scholarship, make him the perfect professor to teach the subjects he does.

All this said, however, it is not Dr. Whitehurst's teaching that fills me with the greatest sense of gratitude. After graduation, he continued the mentoring he had begun in the classroom. His advice and support were instrumental as I transitioned from Naval officer to officer in the corporate world. Best of all, my wife and I have the privilege of enjoying time with the Whitehursts at least twice a year.

Dr. Whitehurst does more in his classroom than simply teach. He prepares his students for life and then participates with them in the success he has made possible. To quote from a previous letter, he truly is "a most remarkable man."
