Contract provides course delivery to deployed Navy personnel
Old Dominion was recently awarded a five-year, $3.9 million contract to continue offering distance learning programs for Navy personnel.
The agreement with the Navy College Program for Afloat College Education enables the university to continue educating sailors through its "ships at sea" program, which offers M.B.A. courses during deployment. The program, the only one of its kind in the nation, utilizes the university's TELETECHNET distance learning network to provide interactive classes. It was initiated in 1996 and has since broadcast classes to 20 Navy vessels.
The contract extends the university's CD-ROM master of engineering management and bachelor of engineering technology programs, which allow sailors to pursue an engineering degree at sea.
The contract also provides for the development of bachelor's degree programs, in general engineering technology, health sciences and medical technology, under the Navy College Rating Partnership.
