Among the Elite

Despite a season marked by injuries, the Lady Monarchs regrouped and came on strong when it counted, capturing their 11th straight CAA crown and advancing to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight, where they lost 85-64 to eventual national champion UConn. Before the Huskies eliminated Old Dominion's Final Four hopes, Coach Wendy Larry's charges defeated Georgia and pulled off upsets over Purdue and Kansas State in the postseason tourney. Old Dominion loses five seniors from this year's squad, including Shárron Francis (above), shown here in action against Connecticut on March 25.

Choir sings at Carnegie - Members of the Old Dominion University Choir bask in the lights at New York's renowned Carnegie Hall, where they performed March 24. The group, led by director Nancy Klein, joined students from a handful of other universities to perform Mozart's "Solemn Vespers," a 40-minute-long piece, during a retirement concert for Klein's former professor and mentor, David Greenlee of Eastern Kentucky University.
