A three-time All-America sailor, a multipurpose athlete from the 1930s and All-Region greats from baseball, women's basketball and men's soccer were inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame this spring.
Joining the Hall were: Adrienne Goodson '88, a starter for the WNBA's Utah Starzz; Flurry Normann Yanez '89 of Norfolk, a three-time sailing All-American; Sean Fahey '80 of Virginia Beach, one of the all-time great defensive players in Monarch soccer history; Louis "Hickie" Smith '38 of Virginia Beach, a standout in track and field, baseball and football ; and Tommy West '85 of Alexandria, Va., who compiled a 31-7 career pitching record as a Monarch.
Old Dominion won .662 of its Division I intercollegiate athletic contests in 1998-99 to finish first in the annual Virginia Sports Information Director's Association state survey. The Monarchs won .669 percent of their women's and .656 percent of their men's games.
