Alexander Becomes Fifth ODU Alumnus In
General Assembly

Kenneth Cooper Alexander, a 1990 graduate of Old Dominion and former member of the Alumni Association, was elected Aug. 6 to the General Assembly as state delegate from Norfolk’s 89th District.

A Democrat, Alexander won a special election to succeed Jerrauld C. Jones, who stepped down from his seat to become director of the state’s Department of Juvenile Justice.

Alexander, who is president of Metropolitan Funeral Service, serves as president of the Beacon Light Civic League and Community Housing Development Organization. Until his election he was a member of the Norfolk Planning Commission, and he is past president of the Virginia
Morticians Association.

Alexander joins four other ODU alumni in the General Assembly, all of whom serve in the House of Delegates: John Cosgrove ’85 of Chesapeake, Winsome E. Sears ’92 of Norfolk, Kenneth R. Plum ’65 of Fairfax and Harry R. “Bob” Purkey ’68 of Virginia Beach.
