Myreen “Rennie” Moore Nicholson ’62 (M.A. ’97) has poetry published in the latest “Poet’s Domain” anthology (Live Wire Press). A former Poet-in-the-Schools for Virginia Beach and former assistant to Pulitzer Prize-winner W.D. Snodgrass, she also has poems in the latest “Poetry Society of Virginia Anthology.” She received the Tri-Centennial Alumni Award from the College of William and Mary for contributions to Virginia. Rennie is listed in the millennium edition of Marquis’ “Who’s Who in the World.” An art appraiser, she is also listed in “Who’s Who in American Art.”

Bob Hardison ’67 (M.B.A. ’79) recently retired from his position as director of quality and technical services at Northrop Grumman Newport News, where he worked more than 46 years.
MaryAnn Faubion Kohl ’69 celebrated her publishing company’s 20th anniversary in January. She began Bright Ring (www.brightring.com) with her first book, “Scribble Cookies.” She has written and published many titles on art for children, including the best-selling “Discovering Great Artists: Hands-on Art for Children in the Styles of the Great Masters.” She has also written 14 titles for Gryphon House Inc., including “Preschool Art” and “Big Messy Art.” An international speaker on creativity, art, literacy and publishing, she has received many awards for education and publishing. MaryAnn lives in Bellingham, Wash., with her husband, Michael, and two daughters.

Arifeen M. Daneshyar (M.A. ’70) received the Excellence in Teaching Award for 2004 at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where he has taught for more than 20 years.
LaVonne Ellis (M.S.Ed. ’70) of Chesapeake was named a member of the Tidewater Community College board. She is an AFLAC sales associate.
Richard E. Watkins ’70 retired in 2002 from Anheuser-Busch after 30 years of service.
James V. Meath ’71, a partner in the labor and employment section of Williams Mullen law firm, was installed as president of the Virginia Bar Association in January. He is vice chairman of the board at Williams Mullen and serves as the Rich-mond/Charlottesville regional head. He also is chairman of the firm’s labor and employment section. Jim has served on the VBA board of governors since 2000. He is listed in the labor and employment section of “The Best Lawyers in America” and has been named one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business magazine. Bruce M. Carothers ’76, ’87 has lived in the San Francisco Bay area the last five years after having spent two years in Paris. (A classnote in the spring 2005 edition of the magazine mistakenly identified him as the Bruce Carothers who had joined the Hampton Roads office of Hermes Abrasives Ltd.)
John Compel (M.S.Ed. ’76), a high school administrator, retired in June after 33 years in Virginia’s public schools. A proponent of block scheduling, he helped introduce the concept to his school system. He coaches Little League baseball and football while working part time in the personnel office of Prince William County Public Schools. John lives in Fairfax County with his wife, Joyce, and his two sons.

Thomas McNally ’77 has joined Wilbanks, Smith & Thomas Asset Management LLC, a Norfolk-based account management firm, as a portfolio manager.
Jane Spinney Phillips ’77 has been promoted by BB&T to assistant vice president. She is a personal trust specialist in the bank’s wealth management division and is based at 500 E. Main St., Norfolk. Jane is a member of the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council and a board member of the Virginia Children’s Chorus. She and her husband, William, live in Virginia Beach and have two children.
Leslie Juergens Brinker ’78 and her family moved to Carmel, Ind., in July 2003. She started work for Weaver Popcorn Co. on a contract basis in December 2003 and joined the company in August 2004.

Yvonne Wilson Boone ’79 had three paintings accepted in the 71st Annual International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Miniature at Strathmore Hall Arts Center, North Bethesda, Md. She also had three more paintings in the Tidewater Artists Association Juried Miniature Art Show at Norfolk’s Hermitage Foundation Museum in December.

Greg Hanson ’80 (M.P.A. ’02) was recently appointed supervisor of new construction for Chesapeake Public Schools. He had worked as a planner with the school system since 1998. Greg lives in Chesapeake with his wife, Sue, and two teenage sons.

Amy Antonucci ’82 accepted the quality improvement coordinator position with Personal Touch Home Care & Hospice’s Norfolk regional offices in January. She recently earned the certificate for OASIS specialist-clinical. OASIS is a quality measure used by home health agencies to enhance care for patients. Amy also earned a certificate in forensic nursing from Kaplan University and is a nurse consultant, offering services as a clinical review specialist. Her husband, Steve, is an assistant instructor for the truck driver training program at Tidewater Community College. Their daughter Angela is completing requirements to major in psychology, with a minor in drama, at Virginia Tech; daughter Cristina recently graduated from Alliance Christian High School and plans to pursue a degree in hospitality services at TCC.

He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat V in March for actions while leading a section of helicopters on a casualty evacuation mission in Iraq in April 2003. He was scheduled to report to HMX-1, Presidential Helicopter Squadron, in June 2005.

Margaret Garland Chewning ’93 of Norfolk became a fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute in April. CSI is a national association of specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors, building materials suppliers and others involved in institutional and commercial building design and construction. Only 340 of the organization’s nearly 17,000 members have been elevated to fellowship in its 57-year history. Fellows are selected for their accomplishments in advancing construction technology, improving construction specifications, educating people in the construction industry or advancing the goals of the institute. Margaret is a specifications consultant at SpexResources LLC in Norfolk.

Lt. Kevin S. Whisman ’96, U.S. Navy, recently served as fleet supply support officer for the Commander U.S. Naval Activities United Kingdom and for the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Sigonella-London detachment. From January 2003 to May 2004, he volunteered to serve as the CNAUK operations and security department head, which included duties as the U.S. naval security officer for the UK and Northern Europe, and received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal from Secretary of the Navy Gordon England in October. In December, Kevin completed his master’s in leadership and business ethics from Duquesne University. He transferred in March to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he is a quality assurance and customer service officer for the Non-Appropriated Funds program division.

Ryan Dickerman ’98 earned a master’s in clinical-counseling psychology at LaSalle University and works in a nonprofit agency in New Jersey as a therapist for at-risk youth and foster and adopted children. A member of the World Karate Union hall of fame for martial arts dedication, he was promoted to 4th Dan black belt in 2003. Ryan, who co-owns a martial arts school, received four awards for martial arts dedication and promotion from Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame from 2002-05.

Jerome Stokes ’03 was recently transferred from a staff position as a lieutenant with the Lynchburg (Va.) Police Department to supervising the Police K-9 and Street Crimes teams. He was part of a 20-officer contingent that assisted with the Presidential Inaugural Protection Detail for the inauguration of George W. Bush. “As the supervisor of a team of five other officers, we provided crowd control and security for the inaugural parade.” The LPD was one of two Virginia police agencies outside the Beltway that were asked to assist the D.C. Metropolitan Police.
