The Mailbag

Thanks For The Story
I just wanted to thank Lisa Suhay and you for the great job on the “Bear Necessities” [Spring 2006] article. It was extremely well written (and accurate, which hasn’t been the case with all the interviews I’ve done in the past).

I’m finding many ODU alumni in the area as a result. Thanks again!

Looking For Tri-K Members From The ’60s
At Homecoming Weekend in November, I attended the ODU-VCU game and met with four sorority sisters there. We all graduated in the 1960s, and three of us were playmates for Delta fraternity, which is now a national organization.

We were in Kappa Kappa Kappa, which is now Pi Phi. We are trying to get in touch with the other Tri-K girls who were in the sorority in the 1960s for a reunion in the next year. I can be contacted at PHA14@cox.net.

Atmospheric & Earth Sciences Grad Posts Pictures From 1976-80
I was the Geology Club president from 1977-78 and the department photographer from 1976-78. I went on to earn a master’s degree and left the university in 1980.

I recently created an MSN group and uploaded more than 100 photos that cover the years 1976-80. I will be adding more as I get them scanned.

I would like to let alumni of the Department of Atmospheric and Earth Sciences know of its existence. The Web address to the group is: http://groups.msn.com/OldDominionUniversityGeologyAlumni.
My phone number is 713-301-1074.

Grateful For Education
I have been at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., for six years and was recently awarded tenure and the rank of associate professor of education. I look back on my days at ODU and realize I would not be where I am today if it were not for my preparation and academic work in my master’s program there.

You’ve Come A Long Way
Happy 75th, ODU! The magazine has come a long way, even further than when I sent in the announcement when we had our first son three years ago. I look forward to each issue. Please keep up the good work!

My Favorite ODU Memory

Editor’s note: The following was posted Nov. 19, 2005, on the Alumni Association’s Online Community message board, under the “My favorite ODU memory” category: monarchsonline.odualumni.org.

Many, many. Greek Week, Beach Week, daily life, recurrent dreams of losing my car in the parking lot.

My favorite, though, has to be the trip to Evansville, Ind., to watch the Monarchs play in the Division II national championship basketball tournament. After a great win in the semis, we were unable to win the finals, falling to home team Evansville. Our chant, “We’re coming back,” drowned out their victory cheers and, I believe, impressed their fans. We did come back, and won the national championship a couple of years later.
