ODU Offers Scholarships To Valedictorians, Salutatorians

Old Dominion University now offers scholarships to all high school valedictorians and salutatorians. Students who qualify will receive $6,000 annually toward tuition and room and board, regardless of other awards or financial aid.

“This is our way of demonstrating our admiration and respect for these exceptional students who have achieved such high levels of academic success,” said Alice R. McAdory, executive director of admissions.

Last year, admissions counselors learned that some prospective students who were at the top of their class did not qualify for certain scholarships because of slightly lower SAT scores.

“We want to reward students who have worked hard and shown tenacity. It’s not an easy feat to graduate first or second in your class,” said Lakeisha Phelps ’00, assistant director for recruitment and scholarships.

The scholarship offer is among the latest efforts by ODU to court outstanding students locally and nationally.
