The March To March

With two-thirds of the season behind them, the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs were focusing on playing their best in the home stretch of conference games to boost their chances for a good seeding in the CAA Tournament. The men’s team, however, after a strong start in league play, came up short in a lopsided loss at George Mason Jan. 28, which at the time pitted the two conference leaders. Following the defeat, ODU’s record stood at 15-6 overall and 8-3 in the CAA.

Through January, seniors Isaiah Hunter and Alex Loughton were the team leaders in scoring (14.7 and 13.4, respectively).

The women, despite early season-ending injuries to three key players, regrouped to lead the league with an 8-0 mark through January. ODU’s 10-7 overall record included losses to three of the nation’s best teams, North Carolina, Duke and Tennessee. With 10 games remaining, T.J. Jordan (13.8), Sherida Triggs (10.8) and Lawona Davis (10.2) were leading ODU’s balanced scoring attack.

The men’s CAA Tournament is scheduled for March 3-6, while the women’s event will be March 8-11.
