SAFE LANDING–ODU alumnus Ronald “R.J.” Smith ’89 (front row, third from right) is welcomed to campus by Army ROTC staff and students, as well as Monarch cheerleaders, after landing his Black Hawk helicopter on Kaufman Mall Aug. 24. Smith, who went through the AROTC program at the university, is currently a chief warrant officer and Virginia Army National Guard pilot in Richmond. His visit was one of the highlights of ODU’s Week of Welcome for new students.
