Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) is a national initiative sponsored by the Council of Graduate Schools and the Association of American Colleges & Universities and supported by numerous disciplinary organizations in the life sciences, math, computer science, the social sciences, and humanities.  Preparing Future Faculty involves providing graduate students with information and experiences relevant to academic careers in their field. In particular the program seeks to familiarize students with the diversity of research, teaching, and service responsibilities of faculty members in different types of colleges and universities.

At ODU the PFF initiative, supported by the College of Sciences and the College of Arts & Letters, has offered talks and workshops related to the skills required to be a successful faculty member.  These have included “Talk About Teaching” presentations, an Academic Career Day, and an Academic Job Application Workshop.  Click on the Future Events link on the left to get information on upcoming events.  The PFF Steering Committee is currently developing materials for interested students to earn a “PFF Certificate,” to develop faculty mentoring opportunities, and to visit faculty at other colleges and universities to discuss their experience as faculty members. If you would like to be on the mailing list to receive information about future PFF events and activities, please email Elaine Justice (ejustice@odu.edu).
