Dear Graduate Student: Welcome to Old Dominion University's on-line graduate student orientation. Congratulations! You are embarking upon graduate studies at one of the most exciting educational institutions in the United States. Old Dominion University is a cutting edge research facility and an innovative educational enterprise that is home to more than 20, 000 students and 600 faculty. Our 6500 graduate students are enrolled in more than 60 master’s degree programs, 23 doctoral degree programs, and a number of graduate certificate programs. By joining the Old Dominion University family as a graduate student, you will have the opportunity to gain the education and skills to best position yourself for our increasingly competitive occupational environment. You will have the opportunity to participate in both on-site and distance learning formats with world- renowned faculty researchers. Interactions with your classmates will help prepare you for our increasingly complex and global economy as our diverse student body represents over 108 countries and are helping us to earn our reputation as Virginia’s International University. Our motto is "Portal to New Worlds," and we expect that your graduate education will open new doors for you. We invite you to explore this orientation at your leisure to learn about our extensive list of resources including the library, computer services, and student services. Please learn about your graduate program of interest but also explore other programs to connect with possible interdisciplinary areas. This site is designed to offer you new information whether you are perusing it for the first time as a prospective student or returning for assistance as an enrolled graduate student. When you need a break from studies, we hope that you will take the opportunity to enjoy the “Monarch Madness” provided by our highly acclaimed student athletes, the cultural performances on campus and in the wider Hampton Roads community, and our diverse array of guest lectures and symposia. Please also avail yourself of the other inviting cultural, recreational and very scenic activities at your disposal in the local Hampton Roads areas. You are only a short distance from beaches, mountains, trails, and the metropolis of Washington, D.C is only about three hours away. Because this area is home to the largest naval base in the world, we extend a special welcome to all of our military students and their families. Again, welcome to the Old Dominion family. Should you have any questions, please contact us in 212 Koch Hall, 757 683 4885. We wish you a challenging and rewarding graduate experience! Jean Martin Suzanne Finnerty Brittany Anderson | ||
