GAC


The Graduate Administrators Council (GAC) will review and make recommendations to strengthen and simplify current University standards, rules, policies and procedures governing graduate education. GAC will also review centralized administrative processes and structure to ensure all areas related to graduate education administration are accountable to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies. They will also develop a graduate program directors handbook and provide training for new and continuing graduate program directors. From the 2000-2004 ODU Strategic Plan

Task Force #1 - Description of common and core vs discipline specific graduate program
administration functions, reports, and accountability: role of GPD and
other administrative personnel.

Task Force #2 -A set of common metrics that assess capacity, productivity and
performance of graduate programs - to be collected each semester, stored
in BANNER and accessible to appropriate faculty and administrators
(required for SACS accreditation, NRC study, Professional Accreditations,
CGS annual reports, Peterson’s Guide, etc.)

Task Force #5 - Guidelines on Assistantship assignments and grievances (Senate Issue Number 2006/7-2 Protection of Graduate Teaching Assistants): written contract of duties, expected average hours worked, supervision and documentation of performance and hours worked (?), and a grievance policy to protect students from improper work assignments and excessive hours.
