The Faculty Emeriti Association scholarship endowment received $199,000 in 2009 from the estate of Margaret Casto Phillips, professor emerita of mathematics and computer science. Phillips, who died April 5, 2009, joined the Old Dominion faculty in 1945 and retired in 1979. She served as acting chair of the mathematics department from 1965-67. For many years, Phillips was the university liaison to the American Association of University Women.
