27th Endowed Ludwick Lecture

<p> Dr. Samuel George Philander, the Knox Taylor Professor of Geosciences at Princeton University, will give the 27th endowed Ludwick Lecture, on Thursday, April 10, 3pm, 2014, at the Oceanography/Physics Bldg. room 200. Professor Philander is a world renowned scientist in the field of atmosphere and ocean dynamics, an author of over 100 research papers, dozen book chapters and books on the El-Nino phenomena, climate change and global warming. The topic of the lecture is &quot;El-Nino&#39;s family tree&quot;.<br /> <br /> The Ludwick Lecture series started in 1988 to honor Jack Ludwick, who was the director of the Institute of Oceanography at ODU in 1968, and one of the founding fathers of what later became the department of Ocean Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.<br /> <br /> Professor Philander, who holds a B.Sc. degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa (1962) and Ph.D. from Harvard University (1970). He has been a senior research oceanographer at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Lab in Princeton for many years, then the director of the program in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, a Professor and Chair of the department of Geosciences at Princeton University. He is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the American Meteorology Society, American Geophysical Union and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.</p> <p> Please see the attached announcement for more information.</p>
