Seminar: Microwave Tomography

Microwave Tomography: An Emerging Biomedical Imaging Modality

Speaker: Alexander Bulyshev, Staff Scientist, Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc., Hampton, VA

When: 9:00 AM, Tuesday, September 2, 2014

Where: 1st floor conference room, IRP II

All are invited.

Abstract:

Microwave tomography (MWT) is an emerging biomedical imaging modality with great potential for non-invasive assessment of functional and pathological conditions of soft tissues. This presentation is a review of research results obtained by the author and his colleagues and focuses on various potential clinical applications of MWT such as imaging of the heart, brain, and extremities, and breast and lung cancer diagnostics.

Biosketch:

Dr. Bulyshev has a Ph.D. in physics and mathematics from Latvian State University, Riga, and a Dr.Sc., also in physics and mathematics, from Tomsk State University in Russia, and is a recipient of a grant from the Soros Foundation. He was Professor of Physics at Novosibirsk State University in Russia and is currently Adjunct Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Computer Information Systems at Strayer University in Newport News. Dr. Bulyshev has more than 60 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and proceedings.
