2014 Kaufman Award
<p> Do you know an outstanding student that has graduated this past August or December or will be graduating this May? If so, please encourage them to apply for the Kaufman Award. </p> <p> </p> <p> Landmark Communications Inc. established the Kaufman Award to honor Charles L. Kaufman, a philanthropist and after whom Kaufman Hall, Old Dominion's Engineering building, was named. The prize will be awarded to a graduating senior "who has exerted an exceptional and constructive influence on the university, its students or the community by demonstrating the highest qualities of leadership and service."</p> <p> </p> <p> Up to 10 students will be selected for the Kaufman Award. The recipient of the Kaufman Award will be selected from this group and will receive $10,000. The runner-up will receive a monetary award. The recipients will be announced at the University's Student Awards & Honors Dinner on May 8, 2014.</p> <p> </p> <p> Graduates from August and December 2013 and May 2014 are eligible for consideration. Basic eligibility criteria are (1) graduating senior; (2) minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; and (3) exceptional record of service to Old Dominion University or the greater Hampton Roads community.</p> <p> </p> <p> Students meeting the basic eligibility requirements are invited to submit an application packet. Complete application packets include:</p> <p> </p> <p style="margin-left:.5in;"> ü A letter of support by any faculty, staff, chaplain, or alumnus of the University</p> <p style="margin-left:.5in;"> ü Two letters of recommendation. They should be written by individuals who know the merit of your work or who can cite examples of your character, leadership, and/or academic ability. </p> <p style="margin-left:.5in;"> ü A completed Kaufman Award application</p> <p> </p> <p> A screening committee consisting of representatives from the academic colleges and the campus community will review the applications, conduct personal interviews, and forward recommendations to President Broderick for his review and final selection.</p> <p> </p> <p> Eligible students can download the application packet at</p> <p> </p> <p> <a href="http://www.odu.edu/sees/kaufmanaward">http://www.odu.edu/sees/kaufmanaward</a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> <strong>DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: Friday, February 7, 2014 by 5 P.M</strong>.
