Blackboard Courses Deleted

Blackboard Course IDs beginning with 201210_FALL will be deleted from the system on March, 7, 2014. Please export and save the courses before March 7, 2014. After this date these courses will no longer be available on your course list and they cannot be restored. Please see below on how to export your course data. You must save a copy of the export on a local drive outside of Blackboard to have access to the course export after the course had been deleted. If you have any questions please contact itshelp@odu.edu.

WHAT IS EXPORT? Exporting your course provides a copy of your course content outside of Blackboard that can be imported back into Blackboard at a later date.

WHY SHOULD I EXPORT? If you do not teach the course at least once every 12 months it is IMPORTANT to backup a copy because you may find that your course has been purged the next time you want to copy it. Otherwise, it is recommended that you export a backup at the end of EVERY semester as standard practice. Also, if you want to share some or all of your course content with another instructor, you can give them the exported file to import into their own course sites.

HOW DO I EXPORT? Go to the Control Panel of the course you want to backup and follow these steps:

Click Packages and Utilities, then click Export Course

Click Export again on the next page

In Step 2, File Attachments, select the options to copy links and include copies of the files in the course default directory and outside of the course default directory.

In Step 3, Select Course Materials, check ALL the boxes in the list to make sure all your content and linked items are included - even if you may not think you use them. If you omit any boxes unchecked that are part of linked items, your export will be incomplete.

         In Step 4, Click Submit

WAIT for the email message that the export is done.

AFTER you get the confirmation email message, return to the Control Panel and go to the Export page again.

Download the zip file and save it in a safe location that you can remember.

Repeat for ALL your courses at least once after you create your course and again at the end of each semester (more frequently if you make changes during the semester).

After you have saved all your export files on your computer, return to Control Panel > Packages and Utilities > Export Course and remove them. (This helps to free up storage space on the Blackboard servers.)

If you have any additional questions please contact ITS at itshelp@odu.edu or call at 757-683-3189.
