Soprano Cadences Using the Dominant Seventh

Certain melodic patterns in the soprano suggest specific harmonizations at the cadence.

3 - 2 - 1 in soprano suggests the cadential I six-four, followed by V⁷ , followed by I.
2 (half note) - 1 suggests ii⁽⁶⁾ - V⁷ - I.
8 - 7 - 8 is frequently harmonized a I six-four - V⁷ - I
5 - 4 - 3 commonly has a I six-four - V⁷ - I
2 - 7 - 1 suggests ii⁽⁶⁾ - V⁷ - I
